16 ohm, but I doubt that's a biggie, I can think of a zillion ways to deal with that

seems like a reasonable price

I was concerned about the back vent then remembered the discussion about a disc glued inside to block it off.

They do have the proper front vents it appears...

Obviously ain't mine. Wouldn't mind them being mine...

Altec 414-16's

Pretty sure those are E's with the cast/rounded back plates.

I think Analog Addict is their new owner, he was after them last i knew anyway.

While the lettering scheme doesn't jive with the 416's, the "C" version of the 414 uses the stepped alnico motor of the 416-8B.

The flash has pretty well washed out the print on the foilcal, but that's a 414-8C from 9849.

FWIW, much akin to 515E's and 416C's, i have seen both flat magnet and curved back plate versions of the 414E's

Just a matter of wrapping up the deal. The current offer from the seller is $100 plus shipping, but I am trying to tempt him with possible trade bait to reduce the cash outlay.

Reasonable in either case?

Anyway, the only plan I had for these was a possible frankenspeaker based on a set of EV aristo's. I have 2 Aristo cabs with the SP12B's smaller magnet full rangers in them. I traded awhile back for the complete set of drivers and X-overs out of a set of Klipsch Heresy's, and was now thinking about using these woofers instead of the Heresy woofers.

Thoughts? suggestions?

I also have a set of EMIT tweeters available, some Frazier horn tweeters, and of course, some 511's with either 908's, 902's or if I get them rephragmed, a set of 802D's....

Altec woofer w/klipsch components................ sacrilege!

My suggestion:
2-way system similar to the ones Altec used them in. I can provide you with a component list and we could figure out a wiring diagram to clone the 32343 crossover network if you decide to go that or similar route.

So how do you think that would work with a mini-corner horn design like the EV Aristocrat?

Seen them, touched them, moved them, but i have never actually heard or been intimate with Aristocrat, so i really cannot comment with an ounce of validity.

I do however know that the 414, even tho it won't dig as deep as a 416, is one sweet woofer in a ported box, my 9849's will be some of the last speakers i'll ever part with.

Try them with the Heresy stuff if it's not a lot of work, part of the fun with this stuff is trying the combinations mother nature ever intended and getting them to work well.

In all fairness my biggest gripe about the klipsch stuff is "the tweeter that isn't", the effect they have on me is not unlike cleaning your ears with a wire bottle brush.

Well, that's kinda why I mentioned some of the other combos. When I got my Madrids back, the CV tweeters I had stuck in them had been replaced by EMITs. I haven't listened to them since they came home, but I can't help but think there's going to be an efficiency mismatch.

I did quite like the sound of 515's/908-8A's on 511's and the Frazier horn tweeters I had going awhile back, and all the drivers seemed to work quite well together from an efficiency standpoint. Given the way the cabinets incorporate the back corner of the room as the last dimension of the horn, I'm hoping they'd go at least as low as the 515's.

Where might you suggest might be the best point to cross the woofers over inj a two way system? in a three way system?
